About This Fest
Lake of Stars promotes Malawian arts and tourism through its programming and music, both of which encourage cultural curiosity. In addition, it organizes festivals on the shores of Lake Malawi and runs events in Europe and across Africa. The lake itself is one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world. Supposedly, when Scottish explorer David Livingstone reached the land-locked, sub-Saharan country, he commented that the fishing boats drifting along the water at night made it look like a Lake Of Stars. Named in honor of Livingston’s description, this festival launched in 2003 and has been a local treasure ever since.
